Wavetrain Solutions of a Reaction-Diffusion-Advection Model of Mussel-Algae Interaction

چکیده
We consider a system of coupled partial differential equations modeling the interaction of mussels and algae in advective environments. A key parameter in the equations is the ratio of the diffusion rate of the mussel species and the advection rate of the algal concentration. When advection dominates diffusion, one observes large-amplitude solutions representing bands of mussels propagating slowly in the upstream direction. Here, we prove the existence of a family of such periodic wavetrain solutions. Our proof relies on Geometric Singular Perturbation Theory to construct these solutions as periodic orbits of the associated traveling wave equations in the large-advection–small-diffusion limit. The construction encounters a number of mathematical obstacles which necessitate a compactification of phase space, geometric desingularization to remedy a loss of normal hyperbolicity, and the application of a generalized Exchange Lemma at a loss-of-stability turning point. In particular, our analysis uncovers logarithmic (switchback) corrections to the leading-order solution. MSC numbers: 35K57, 35C07, 35B36

Nonlinear dynamic and pattern bifurcations in a model for spatial patterns in young mussel beds.
Young mussel beds on soft sediments can display large-scale regular spatial patterns. This phenomenon can be explained relatively simply by a reaction-diffusion-advection (RDA) model of the interaction between algae and mussel, which includes the diffusive spread of mussel and the advection of algae. We present a detailed analysis of pattern formation in this RDA model. We derived the condition...
متن کاملCoherent Structures in a Population Model for Mussel-Algae Interaction
We consider a known model that describes formation of mussel beds on soft sediments. The model consists of nonlinearly coupled pdes that capture evolution of mussel biomass on the sediment and algae in the water layer overlying the mussel bed. The system accounts for the diffusive spread of mussel, while the diffusion of algae is neglected and at the same time the tidal flow of the water is con...

Calcium oxide is one of the appropriate catalysts for biodiesel production. In this study, cheap and compatible with environment catalyst has been used. Mussel shell of Persian Gulf coast is one of the sources of calcium carbonate that is converted to calcium oxide at calcination temperature up to 950°C. Transesterification reaction was carried out at optimum condition of our previous study...
متن کاملChecking the Sensitivity of Solute Advection- Dispersion Model to Reaction Coefficients and River Hydraulic Properties in the Process of Dissolved Oxygen Simulation
Nowadays, environmental pollutions especially water pollution is increasingly developing. One of the problems of entering the pollutants to rivers is reduction in the concentration of river dissolved oxygen. In order to manage the water resources, amount of dissolved oxygen should be predicted. This study presents a novel equation for simulating the concentration of river dissolved oxygen by ad...
